Google Antigravity is a genuinely impressive agent-first IDE that finally gives Cursor and Claude Code real competition. The free tier is generous enough to evaluate properly, the Manager view for orchestrating multiple agents is unlike anything else on the market, and Gemini 3.1 Pro handles complex multi-file tasks surprisingly well. But the March 2026 credit restructuring introduced confusing pricing, agent stability is still inconsistent for production work, and the browser integration — while cool on paper — breaks more often than it should. That first experience was genuinely impressive. The agents worked in parallel, left clear “artifacts” documenting what they changed and why, and the code compiled on the first try. But this was a clean, well-structured Express.js project. As I pushed Antigravity into messier codebases, the experience got more uneven.

Antigravity’s code completions are powered by Gemini 3 Flash for speed and Gemini 3.1 Pro for accuracy. In daily use, the completions feel snappy — typically appearing within 200–400ms — and the context awareness is solid. Where Antigravity Wins

The Manager view is Antigravity’s killer feature. Being able to spawn a mission like “implement user authentication end-to-end” and watch multiple agents coordinate — one handling the backend, another the frontend, a third writing tests — is a workflow that neither Cursor nor Claude Code replicates as seamlessly. Cursor has parallel agents, but they work in isolated workspaces without the same level of coordination. Claude Code has subagents, but managing them requires more manual orchestration.

The browser integration is also unique. For frontend-heavy work, having an agent that can actually see and interact with your UI is a genuine advantage. When I was building a React dashboard, the Antigravity agent caught CSS overflow issues that a code-only agent would have missed entirely.

It is not vaporware — these features work, and when they work well, the experience is remarkable.

But ambition and polish are different things. Antigravity is still in that “impressive demo, inconsistent daily driver” phase. Agent stability needs to improve. The credit system needs to be simplified or made more transparent. The browser integration needs fewer false positives. And the tool ecosystem needs to catch up with Claude Code’s MCP network.

My recommendation: download it, use the free tier for a week, and judge for yourself. The free tier is generous enough to give you a real sense of the agent-first workflow. If it clicks with how you work, the Pro plan at $20/month is competitive. If you find yourself fighting the agents more than directing them, Cursor and Claude Code are more mature alternatives that will serve you well.

Google has the resources, the AI models, and the distribution to make Antigravity the default development environment. Whether they execute on that potential over the next 6–12 months will determine if this is the future of coding or another Google experiment that peaks early and fades. Right now, I am cautiously optimistic — and keeping Cursor installed just in case.
